I have a question. I have a ton of local, non-admin users. I want to migrate to LDAP auth, and wanted to know if there was anyway to have it check for a local account before checking the ldap? I can get the ldap to work if there isn't a local account of the same name, but not able to get the non-admin accounts to login if their username exists in ldap. Thoughts?

You know, after re-reading this post, I realize how incredibly vague I was.

version 1.2 of the plugin doesn't, unfortunately, work with WPMU 1.3 (or 1.3 RC2 for that matter), but it <em>would</em> work with some minor tweaks. The notable one being the removal of the pluggable.php file. That's what I <em>meant</em>, but really not what I wrote. At least not clearly. :)

Anyway, the plugin has a new release, and it has a package specifically for WPMU 1.3. This should help.

Did you have to change anything at all for a clean WPMU 1.3 install? I've installed the current version of the wpmu-ldap plugin and it seems like the LDAP login is never getting called even though I have enabled it under LDAP Options in the admin interface. The thing that's really bugging me is that I can't seem to get any error messages at all so I can't debug my LDAP settings to see if they're the problem.

Any ideas?

Sorry for a delay in responsing, morlockhq. On vacation. :)

You are correct, though. Currently, it does not support secure ldap connections. I agree wholeheartedly that this is something that should be implemented. I believe it's pretty trivial when using PHP's LDAP library... I think there's already been a ticket added to the SF project for it...

I can't tell for sure, but it looks like this plugin doesn't have the ability to login via secure ldap on port 636 (linux/unix). I checked the sourceforge site and didn't see anything mentioned about it for development.

Are there any plans?

I can't code it at the moment, but if I get someone else to, do you accept patches?

@Cossovich:
Amusing you should mention that... the WPMU LDAP plugin is actually derived <em>from</em> a plugin for the original vanilla-WordPress. The original authors have been credited for their work in the documentation with the plugin.

Specifically, Alistair Young - Original LDAP Plug-in
http://www.weblogs.uhi.ac.uk/sm00ay/?p=45

Patrick Cavit - WordPress 1.5.1 Modifcation of LDAP Plug-in
http://patcavit.com/2005/05/11/wordpress-ldap-and-playing-nicely/

Hugo Salgado - WordPress 2.0.3 Patch of WordPress 1.5.1 Modifcation of LDAP Plug-in
http://hugo.vulcano.cl/development/wordpress/ldap-auth-patch/

Don't know if anyone else has picked up the WP version and ran with it, though.

Just wondering if there would be a way to use this plugin to write an LDAP plugin for regular Wordpress?

To my knowledge, yes, it should function on its own within WPMU when inserted into the mu-plugins directory.

Can you send me the full text of the error (via the contact form), especially the line number? Are there any other errors that show up in your logs?
